Canine Hydrotherapy Auchinleck is owned and managed by Julie Steele. Julie has 3 dogs, an English springer spaniel called Charlie who has hip dysplasia, a chocolate lab called Jorge who has epilepsy and a cross breed called Cody.
The introduction to canine hydrotherapy arose when, at the age of 15 weeks, Charlie became lame on his hind legs. Charlie was x-rayed and was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia. The x-rays also showed arthritic changes within the joint.
The orthopedic surgeon suggested that hydrotherapy would be the most suitable course of managing Charlie's condition.
Charlie was thereafter taken to a pool and was swimming twice per week. However Julie took a keen interest not only in Charlie but also other dogs who were at the pool and the conditions they suffered from.
Julie then carried out research and after consulting local vets decided to go to Hawksmoor Hydrotherapy training centre, where she gained the qualifications and confidence to open her own hydrotherapy referral pool.
The pool has now been open for business for 1 year.
